3. Select the text tool and type a capital letter S.

4. Place the 'S' in front of the oval shape.

5. Resize and place the letter S in such a way that it top and and bottom covers the oval shape.

6. Have both shapes selected by highlighting them all together or select the oval

shape hold on shift wile you press the letter S.

7. Go to path from the  top menu bar then select division.

8. Deselect all shape then select the letter S. It may seem invisible but find the stroke and select it then give it a black colour.

9. Select the node tool then select the two red space one after another. Drag as seen below;

10. Drag the opposite red edge to look like the one below;

11. Select the gradient tool from the tool bar.

12. Double click on the letter S to give it a gradient.

13. Select radical gradient on fill and stroke at the right bar of your screen. If not found there then select it from the menu bar then it will appear there.

14. Select the little circle on the gradient line and colour it black

15. while the circle at the middle would be coloured white.

16. Select one of the red portion of the design and give it a linear gradient.

17. Place the line diagonally as seen below;

18. Colour the top red (H=0, S=255, L=154, A=255)

19. Give the bottom a lighter red (H=0, S=255, L=218, A=255)

20. Select the other red portion then repeat the same procedure but make the top deep red.

21. Select all designs.

22. Group them (Ctrl+G).

23. Duplicate the design.

24. Ungroup the duplicated copy (Ctrl+U)

25. Go to path then select union.

26. Select all design (both copy).

27. From the align and distribute select align bottom edge.

28. Select the duplicated copy.

29. Select gradient then make it linear. Place one point of the gradient on top of the copy and the other somewhere  before the middle of the copy of the copy take down the opavcity to '0' while the opacity of the point on the copy should be reduced below 50 till it suit your design as seen below;

30. Create a rectangle covering all part of the copy except the visible part that form the shadow.

31. Select the duplicated copy while holding on shift select the rectangle.

32. Go to path then select difference.

33. Group all design together and your design is completed.

We did this to remove the unwanted invisible space consumed by the shadow. We now have a precise shape and length
