How To Create a Reflection In Inkscape

This is a simple trick that makes your vector or logo realistic. It is used most times instead of a shadow but it is different from a shadow. A shadow is formed as a result of the blockage of light from it source which shows the absence of light while a reflection is simply the throw back or the return of light after hitting a surfacelike glass, water, etc.

Creating the Reflection

  • Select the design, vector or logo. Duplicate it then ungroup the new copy (only if the original design was grouped and it comprises of many joined parts)
  • Select Path>union then flip it vertically
  • Place below and snap the top to the bottom of the design (with the snap contol bar turned on).
  • Use a linear gradient to faint the lower part of the copy to Tranparency(invisible).
  • Use a rectangle to cover the lower part that is the invisible path of the reflection. Using path>difference, cut short the unwanted length of the reflection.
